3 Tips For Handling A Concrete Project

If you have a concrete project that you want to undertake this spring, such as pouring a stoop or installing a new patio space, it helps to understand how to best work with concrete.

Measuring The Amount of Needed Concrete

When you are doing a job, you need to figure out how much concrete you need before you can get started. Concrete is measures in cubic yards. There is a simple formula you can use to figure out how many cubic yards of concrete you will need for your project.

To find the of concrete you need, multiply the length and width of the project in order to find out how many square feet large it is. Then, you are going to want to take that number and multiply it by the thickness or height of the project. After that, you will take the number and divide it by 27. This will give you the number of cubic yards of concrete you need.

If you need help, most concrete suppliers, if you bring in the dimensions of your project, will check your math to help ensure that you are getting the right amount of concrete.

Bags or Delivery

Once you figure out how much concrete you need, you need to determine how you are going to get that concrete. If the job is really small, and only requires a small amount, you can purchase pre-mixed bags, where all you need to do is add water to mixture, stir it together, and pour it into the frame for your project. This makes sense for really small jobs, such as putting down a pad for your air conditioner, or fixing a damaged step.

If you are doing a larger job, it makes more sense to order ready-mix concrete. When you order ready-mix concrete, such as from P & L Concrete Products Inc., a truck brings it to your house. The concrete is already mixed and ready to go. Depending on the location of your job, the concrete can be poured directly in the frame for the job, or you can use wheelbarrows to transport the cement to the job site.

When you want to pour concrete, you need to know the size of your job. You need to use wood to frame the job, so that there is a frame to pour the concrete into. Then you need to calculate the size of the job and determine if you want to mix your own concrete or if you want to have concrete that is prepared delivered to the job site.
